Despite temperatures from -30 to - 40 degrees C (the point at which Fahrenheit and Celsius temperatures coincide) for almost a week, a stocky triceratops is the most recent denizen of our rainforest. He entailed much less piecing than the stegosaurus, making him a happier knit. The only truly fiddly parts were sewing up the small white horns and placing them on the head. I think I should have put the front horn more on top of his snout rather than on the end, but at this point, he is what he is.
The purchase of some fabric glue made for less sewing with the felt too, though it stiffened the piece under the eyes to the point that it was very difficult to push a needle through to sew on the buttons. The glue is supposed to hold up even with washing, so it should be a good choice for a child's toy which just might get dirty, or spilled on, or suffer an even worse fate with the kids being a little under the weather with cold and flu symptoms this week.
The triceratops has been relocated to the bedroom of my now 7-year-old grandson. It's a cliche to say it, but I can hardly believe how the time has flown since I first started this blog and set up a photo album of the baby knitting I did for my first grandchild, here nicknamed Bub. Now he's grown into a wonderful boy, loving and helpful and smart. He was chosen for a monthly award at school last week. He likes to play Skylanders adventures on his Nintendo, invent machines with his Legos, and race down the ski hill. We're very proud of him. Happy Birthday from Nana, Nonno, and your new dinosaur friend.
