The new afghan lives in my spare room now. On separate recent visits, Mom and Vittoria both commented how pretty it looks. I tend to decorate with colors I don't wear - greens and yellows as opposed to the blues, purples, and pinks which look best on me. Green is relaxing, nature's neutral, and sunny yellow is my happy color. Because I decided to buy more yellows for this project, I still have enough leftovers for a second blanket. But I want something completely different.
I'm using instructions from a baby's blanket for a pinwheel motif . Using worsted weight instead of sport weight results in a motif the same size as the motif in Berroco DK which originally attracted me.
I'm using the Salem pattern to determine the number of motifs in each color and the layout. No rush on this one. I'll do a few motifs whenever I'm between projects or just in the mood.
I like to crochet afghans, but I am much less confident following garment instructions in crochet, and I have never done short rows in crochet. I walked past this magazine for at least a month, loving the cover sweater, but not at all sure that I could ever make it. I also felt guilty even to consider buying more Noro for another project. Just before the next issue was due to hit the stands, I caved and bought the magazine.
I checked the yarn requirements and realized that I had three skeins of Crazy Zauberball in the stash that should work for this pattern. After three froggings, I got the first short row section finished, but I'm not saying it's going to be smooth sailing on the next section either. I will need to psych myself up for each repeat. It should be do-able, but it's another project that will require quiet surroundings and concentration on my part, both things that are sometimes in short supply. Maybe I'll get it done for this summer, maybe not. Wait and see.
On my to-do list - learn to crochet. Love the pinwheels. And, I love the bed!
