On my previous visit down south, I spent a day in Port Perry with my mom and sister, and dropped in to see Carol at Never Enough Wool. I was fairly restrained, for me. I did purchase one sweater lot of yarn to knit Aidez, which you may remember I started once before and frogged because I didn't like the stash yarn I was using. Carol stocks Berroco Vintage Chunky, which I think will work. I want something machine washable. I think I'll wear this one a lot if I ever get it finished. The turquoise is a non traditional colour for a classic cabled cardigan, but it's a favorite of mine and will work with almost everything in my wardrobe.
I also bought two skeins of Berroco Linsey. I had several skeins of plain blue left from this sweater, and could make one of the other designs in the booklet if I had a contrast color for the neckline. I picked a different shade of variegated, since I don't want the two sweaters to be too much the same. Summer sweaters don't get much wear here, since the season is so short, especially this year, and they'll last practically forever.
On my recent visit to Mom's, I went to Needles in the Hay in Peterborough. Two single skeins and a pattern book came home with me. I've been admiring tincanknits designs for awhile now. I'd like to knit almost everything they've ever done. They've been very generous with their free patterns. And they're Canadian.
The pink laceweight is Malabrigo Silkpaca in the Archangel colorway. I'm thinking a lightweight lacy scarf or cowl, maybe the Heavenly Cowl by Michelle Krause. I could probably make up a pattern on my own, using a stitch dictionary, but I prefer to let someone else swatch and do the math for me. The blue gradient yarn is Gobstopper; both the color and the name attracted me. When I got home, I checked Ravelry and found out that the dyer "jessiebean" is a Peterborough woman. I'm very happy to support a local yarn artist.
This is one yarn that never made it into the stash. It's an Ishbel for me. I've made four already and they've all been gifts for someone else.
Mine, all mine!
